چکیده

This paper investigates gamma emitter radioactivity in a system consisting of soil and plants. Some selected samples of tissues of animals fed with the plants from these sites were also measured. In soil and plant samples artificial (Cs, Cs) and natural (thorium and uranium series) isotopes were detected. Despite the relatively high content of the natural isotopes in plants and their seeds, their accumulation in animal tissues was not detected. The K isotope was transferred in the chain soil-plant-animal in the highest degree. From the group of the natural isotopes, only Pb was detected in examined animal tissue samples. Other natural isotopes were below detection level. In the samples heavy metal content was also examined. In any sample no clement concentration was noticed above trade acceptable limit.

Assessment Effect of Organic Matter and Arsenic on Transfer Coefficient, Tolerance Index and Phytoremediation in Cress (Lepidium sativum L.)

Soil contamination with heavy metals such as arsenic has harmful effects on human health and agricultural products. Arsenic (AS) is one of the heavy metals which are highly toxic and carcinogenic. This research was conducted to study the effect of organic manure on increasing the Arsenic absorption ability by Cress plant in the greenhouse of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center...

Nature of radioactive contamination in soils of the pine forest in the territory adjacent to Semipalatinsk test site

ABSTRACT Background: This work investigated radioactive contamination in soils of the pine forest in the territory adjacent to Semipalatinsk test site. Materials and Methods: Thirty samples from the soil were collected from six different a soil profile was laid out (research areas). Activity concentrations of 137Cs and 241Am were determined using a Canberra GX-2020 solid-state gamma-spectromet...

Lead and cadmium accumulation potential and toxicity threshold determined for land cress and spinach

Soil contamination with potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in agricultural lands, in part, is responsible for limiting the crop productivity and the food chain contamination. The objective of this study were to asses the limiting of crop productivity by cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb), the potential transfer and bioaccumulation of these PTEs in plants, and ultimately the food chain contamination to e...

Investigating the effect of lead and cadmium on absorption of high consumption nutrients on Glycyrrhiza glabra

Background and objectives: Toxicity of heavy metals and their accumulation in soil, plant and food chains is one of the main environmental and health problems. Among toxic heavy metals, cadmium and lead have received more attention due to their durability and stability in the environment. In this regard, the impact of these metals on valuable medicinal plants and forages that enter into the foo...

Urban vegetable farming: Anthropic level, bioavailability, and health implication associated with bioaccumulated trace metals in selected vegetables in Ilorin, Nigeria

Urban horticulture is of growing importance in developing and developed countries around the world; however, contamination of urban horticultural products can exceed the precautionary values, posing significant human health risks due to dietary exposure to high levels of the pollutants. In this study, samples of rhizosphere soil and corresponding vegetables have been collected from an urban gar...
